  1. 1882-1949. Bulgarian Communist, prime
  2. minister from 1946. He was elected a deputy
  3. in 1913, and from 1919 was a member of the
  4. executive of the Comintern, an International
  5. Communist Organisation. In 1933 he was
  6. arrested in Berlin and tried with others in
  7. Leipzig for allegedly setting fire to the
  8. parliament building (see Reichstag Fire).
  9. Acquitted, he went to the USSR, where he
  10. became general secretary of the Comintern
  11. until its dissolution in 1943.
